Democratic Women of Santa Barbara County Endorsements

Following an extensive review of written questionnaires completed by the candidates and an evaluation of responses at an oral interview, Democratic Women make the following endorsements.

35th Assembly District Das Williams

Das has 6 years of experience as an elected official handling tough issues of budget, housing, transportation, homeless concerns, environment vs. development battles, public health, including support for single payer health care, and support for public education. He has proven himself as a responsive, hands-on leader.

He has an excellent record on supporting women's reproductive choice both locally and as a national board member of NOW.

His background, experience and endorsements reflect his deep connection with this community and District who is committed to being a voice for change in Sacramento.

2nd District Supervisor Janet Wolf

Janet has done a superb job on the Board of Supervisors and has met the challenges with poise and a strong determination to address the concerns of her District.

She has a fierce commitment to her community and is unwavering in her desire to continue to serve as a County Supervisor.

Her presence on the Board of Supervisors provides a balance of power that supports Democratic principles.

Janet's voice and vote will be critically important when redistricting is considered by the Board of Supervisors early in 2011.

New boundaries for the five Supervisorial Districts will be drawn following the conclusion of the census. The results will affect every person living in Santa Barbara County.

VOLUNTEER: 805-448-6741

District Attorney Joyce Dudley

Joyce is impressive as an articulate, passionate, and intelligent attorney who has an in depth understanding of the court system and the office of the District Attorney.

She supports "increased education, prevention and intervention" in the efforts to reduce crime, rather than merely a punishment approach as favored by her opponent.

Joyce served 16 years on The Vulnerable Victims Unit, which was a voice in the courtroom for women, children, the elderly and victims of hate crimes, specifically prosecuting crimes against women. She co-authored curriculum and trained law enforcement officers and prosecutors (statewide) on domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse.

Her understanding of the issues involved with youth violence revealed a sensitive knowledge of the problem, and a realistic approach that involved working with family members, including the younger siblings of youth involved in violent activities and urging agencies to be more collaborative in their work so that efforts are less duplicative and more productive.
